My take on the 53%

This is not a good recording. I made it with my iPhone during practice. This song is about 95% complete. The middle section just isn't right yet, and I haven't quite worked out the right lyric there either.

Click here or on the image if you're curious to hear the progress.

Lyrics below:
I heard you calling from the street. It seems you woke up and can't get back to sleep.
You never knew until you tried that no one would be there to hear you cry.

Tell the liars you believe in that you're fighting for a cause, but the cause won't run the water until the windmill takes up arms.
Did you drop your dollar in the ballot box, and pray for its return? Well it doesn't matter anyway, the bridges have all been burned.

Home sweet home again. It seems you've seen this place before, but you're outside it now and there's no answer at the door.

You only dream when you're asleep, but where's that princely kiss to wake you when you can't quite scream?

The man who bet against you, said he'd be there by your side and you knew he really meant it because he said it with a smile.
Something's got you frightened of your neighbors and crying in the night, but it couldn't be the darkness 'cause you've already shut your eyes.

Home sweet home again. Another bolt across the door, beggar or prisoner, either side is nothing more.

  1. 'Kay, then I'm gonna have to break my 'don't say anything too encouraging too soon' rule to say that really, that sounds like it's gonna be pretty fucking awesome.

... with the honest and probably kinda obvious caveat that I couldn't comment really usefully on the lyric even if I could muster the nerve right now, what with it being a bit hard to make out in some bits, as yet.

But as to the vocal performance itself, that notwithstanding, I like the timbre of your voice there, too. It's not just quid pro quo--I really *do* like that it's not the same ole' same ole'.

Always have liked voices on the idiosyncratic side, tho'. Waits, Cohen, y'know. Haven't ever thought too hard on why. Think maybe in our modern music-saturated world, it may be partly that it just helps catch the attention. There's so many standard pop and radio announcer voices out there already, they become like wallpaper.

  2. Oh crap, I forgot to post the lyrics. Sorry. I'll add them in a sec.

Yeah, it's strange. I apparently have an unusual voice. I get that a lot, which is funny because I think of my voice as pretty boring.

  3. FWIW though, that is my voice at 6 in the morning before getting ready for work.

  4. Oh yeah, and the lyrics might not quite sync up perfectly. I'm still kind of feeling them out.

  5. Well, that's got some real power, that has.
